Let me start by helping you to pronounce my name correctly. Lol! Dete, is pronounced like “D.T.” I have been a devout yoga practitioner @ KLY for 9 years. I wish I had found yoga so much earlier in my life. Prior to finding yoga, I was more of a “gym girl” & working out with a trainer minimum 3 times a week. However I had to talk myself into going to the gym every time because it was grueling, but I liked how my body looked, so I kept pushing on through. When I moved to Key Largo 9 years ago, I lived at mm106 & the closest gym was 15 miles south. I knew I was never going to drive that far to do something I really didn’t even want to do. However I’m not a naturally thin person, so I knew I needed to find some form of working out, to maintain the body I had worked so hard for. I’d heard about yoga, but like most, I was under the misconception that yoga was just for stretching, breathing & meditation. I really never thought I’d break a sweat or get a good workout. But I signed up for a class anyways. Unbeknownst to me, I had signed up for one of their hardest classes & had accidentally set my mat up at the front of the class. When class started I had no idea what was going on! I was mortified that I was in the front & that I had to keep looking around the room to see what others were doing once a posture had been called. However at the end of the class while laying in Savasana, I was pouring sweat & every muscle in my body was shaking. I loved the feeling & was totally hooked despite the embarrassment!! So for my next class, I arrived early so I could set my mat up at the back of the class, and I have been hooked on yoga ever since! I haven’t stepped foot in a gym since discovering what yoga really could do for me & I’ve never looked or felt better! Plus now I actually look forward to going to classes & my workouts. Yoga has really changed my life for the better. I have more patience, I’m able to physically do things I never thought I was strong enough for, I’ve made great friends & overall yoga has made me a better human. Yoga has helped me so much in my life, that I decided to dive in even further. This past year I went alone on a month long journey to Nepal where I received my RYT-200. The experience of going through my yoga teacher training in such a special place as Nepal, really exceeded my every expectation. I’m driven by my love for yoga, the community it’s brought to my life & I hope to help guide and inspire everyone on their own yoga journey too. I hope it changes your life the way it’s changed mine!
