Don’t Be Fooled By The Tights and Lotus Flower…Yoga Is For Men Too!

Common Male Misconceptions:

“Yoga is only for contortionists.  I am not flexible enough to do yoga.

Years of weight lifting, playing sports, or sitting at a desk all day has caused shortened muscles, resulting in poor range of motion in many areas of the body for many men.  These shortened tendons will eventually pull the spine out of alignment and lead to ill health and chronic back pain.  Yoga brings fluid back into stiffened joints and loosens up taut muscles and tendons and can even release gravity-induced stress that has built up within the spine.

Although you may think you are terribly inflexible, you will be amazed at how aware you become of your body and realize how different parts of your body are more flexible than others.  For example, you may find that while your hips are very tight, your shoulders are more open.  Or, perhaps, your right hip is much tighter than your left.  Regardless of where you are starting, yoga will increase flexibility where it is needed and restore balance to the body. Yoga can be a great way to enhance your golf game, fishing experience and even your daily workout at the gym.

Men think…..”Yoga isn’t a real workout.”

Tell that to the sweaty, red faced man exiting on of our classes, and he will surely laugh.  We offer different types of classes to provide different types of challenges.  One wise yogi once said, “In practicing yoga, you will find that the difficult poses get easier while the easier ones become more difficult.”  Once you realize this, even a beginner’s class for a more advanced student can be challenging.

Many professional athletes such as Kevin Garnett, Shaquille O’Neal, LeBron James, Ray Lewis, Victor Cruz, Evan Longoria and Eddie Forge  have added yoga to their training schedules.  These and other male athletes have proclaimed yoga to be the key to their peak performance.

Here Are Just A Few Examples Of The Benefits Of Yoga For Men:

  • Greater flexibility and range of motion
  • Increased muscle strength
  • More energy
  • Less perceived stress
  • Sharper focus and clarity
  • Reduced risk of injury
  • Reduced bodily pain, especially chronic back pain

We even have several local men who practice regularly. Come on in and give yoga a try… just might like it!!
